Brothers and friends of Umunwoha Patriotic Front, the great patriots of Umunwoha, the pathfinders of a united Umunwoha front will converge on 27th day of May 2017 by 11am at the Community Primary School Orogwe, Umunwoha, Owerri-West, Imo State to celebrate their illustrious son who was appointed an Executive Director in the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON). This great event will be graced by His Excellency, Owelle Rochas Okorocha – Executive Governor of Imo State.
Also expected at the event are top government officials from the Federal, State and Local government.
Dr. Eberechukwu Uneze is an eminent son of Amakaohia-Ubi in Umunwoha. History has it that Umunwoha clan in Owerri-West originated from Uratta in Owerri-North area of Imo State. History has it that Ekwemarugo and Oha are of the same parents with Oha as the first son and a hunter. Oha had OHII (First Son), OROGWE, NDEGWU, AMAKAOHI-UBI, IRETE (Last Son). They are called Umunwoha ofor Ise.
Before now, Umunwoha never had this privilege nor this opportunity to organise this kind of reception for any of their sons, daughters or wives because there has not been need for it. Despite the fact that Umunwoha people had produced erudite Scholars, Intellectuals, Technocrats, Administrators, Academicians, Captains of industries, Industrialists, Political heavy weights, Great media professionals e.t.c they never had it this good both at Local Government Level, State and even Federal government.
Umunwoha people believe that gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. They believe that gratitude changes everything. They believe that feeling grateful and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today and creates a vision for tomorrow.
E Kele Dike na nke omere, ya e me ozo. Umunwoha people are thanking President Muhammadu Buhari who appointed their own brother and friend - Executive Director in the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON). They are also with great joy in their heart thanking God Almighty for making this possible.
AMCON is a unique institution in the sense that it is setup to carry out specific business activities. AMCON is a debt recovery institution backed by an Act of the National Assembly. The key objective for establishing AMCON is to ensure stability in the financial system. Prior to the establishment of AMCON in 2010, most of the financial institutions in the country were faced with serious liquidity challenges, which almost collapsed the system. AMCON came in and brought stability in this critical sector of the economy. The financial sector is pivotal to the economy and its collapse would lead to an unimaginable social catastrophe. Jobs were saved in the process, which could have led to an increase in unemployment and its associated ills.
During the interview with HERALD crew, Dr. Uneze reaffirm that under the leadership of Mr. Ahmed Kuru as the Managing Director, they have been able to make substantial progress in debt recovery drive. He further added that “debt recovery has a positive relationship with the economy. The slower the recovery of the economy, the harder it is to recover debt. AMCON has a duty to ensure that the bonds it raised to stabilize the financial sector does not crystalize due to its potential negative consequences on the economy. This is now the primary aim having stabilized the financial system. However, in this effort, they take seriously, the issues of unemployment and industrial growth into consideration.
As an economist, Dr. Uneze also shared his view on how Nigerian economy can recover and get stronger, saying- “Already the building blocks for economic recovery have been laid by the recent launch of the economic recovery plan by the Federal Government. What is required at this time is full implementation of the plan. This means that all the economic actors and agents must support the Federal Government towards realization of the objectives set out in the plan. In specific terms, the real sector must be fully activated to create jobs, thanks to the recent economic policy that has placed agriculture at the heart of job creation. This does not imply that manufacturing should be left out. Efforts on the diversification of economy should be accelerated while industrialization must be natural resource driven to reflect the natural resource endowment of the country. Lastly, the poor should be carefully targeted through social programs in education, health and water sectors”.
Umunwoha people are celebrating their son and brother who believes success is not measured by the level of your material accomplishment, rather by the number of people that smile when they hear your name. During an interview with DSG HERALD he said “… success means to what extent you have positively influenced people’s life. In this context, I would say that I am a success going by the way my people appreciate my little effort. I would wish that this level of success would continue for the good of our society/community.” A person who is appreciated will always do more than is expected of him.
Dr. Eberechukwu Uneze was born to the family of Chief Cyril and Lolo Mercy Uneze. His parents were both teachers and strong Christians, and this I would say impacted his upbringing.
Both parents were academicians, and so the value placed on education in the family cannot be over-emphasized. Where he is today is largely a result of education and hardwork, certainly his parents will be very pleased with what God has enabled him to achieve today.
