Artist Corner: Davido – Living A Larger Life

In the past, music may have been regarded as a job for some youths who have dropped out from schools by some academic elites in the country, considering the fact that it's never seen as a lucreative business for serious minded Nigerians. However, the success story of many fast rising and established artists in the music industry, with emphasis on David Adedeji Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, who is currently rocking the airwaves with his latest singles "IF", with the notable part (30 billion for my account), have proved that, music is not only meant for the 'lazy' minds but also for all and sundries.Davido stormed the Nigeria music industry with his blockbuster hit song "Dami Duro" that was well-received throughout Nigeria by people of different ages and became an instant favourites amongst show promoters.Despite growing up in the United State of America, the Omo Baba Olowo crooner, attached himself perfectly with the Nigerian setting, blending well with the most trending songs in the country and creating a soft landing balance that held most music lovers spell-bound.Venturig into music was a passion for Davido inspite of the criticisms that he received from families and friends due to the fact that he dropped out of Oakwood University when he started getting bad grades and relocated to London, where he focused more of his energy towards vocals as opposed to production. Music was like a soul mate for the Davido."I’ve been doing music for like 1 year but I took it seriously in March 2011. I was formerly in a group called KB international in America. It wasn’t working out so I thought I should just do this on my own that was when I moved back to Nigeria. I was around people that were musically inclined. I love music, and why not do something you love and are happy doing and making money at the same time." he said.On April 6, 2012, Nigerian Entertainment Today reported that Davido signed a ₦30 million endorsement deal with MTN. The deal unveiled him as the face of MTN Pulse , a marketing campaign for Nigerian youths. On October 24, 2013, Pulse reported that Guinness Nigeria signed Davido to an endorsement deal.Besides, Davido’s luxury lifestyle was one of the talking points in the Nigeria music industry with his super finished four bedroom semi-detached duplex house in Lekki; arguably one of the best interior designed celebrity homes in Nigeria cost an outstanding N140 Million naira. There is no doubt that when cars come into question, with a present personal net worth that stands at an impressive $14Million, you can purchase, sell-off and repurchase cars at will. Davido A.K.A Omo Baba Olowo is actually living up to his nickname as his garage is filled with exotic cars.As of December 2014, Davido has received a total of 29 awards from 74 nominations. He is the recipient of a BET Award, a Kora Award, a Channel O Music Video Award, a Ghana Music Award, a Nigeria Music Video Award, 2 MTV Africa Music Awards , 2 African Muzik Magazine Awards, 5 The Headies Awards , 7 Nigeria Entertainment Awards and 2 Dynamix All Youth Awards.Having produced as many hit songs such as Skelewu, Aye, Ekuro, The Money, Owo Ni Koko, Gobe with a few to mention, American-born Nigerian recording artist, performer and recordproducer appears to be enjoying the best moment of his musical career even though he hasn't won the Grammy award. By Augustine Akhilomen
